Summer Camp, Creating memories that last a lifetime

Dear Camp Summertime Families,

We are heartbroken to announce that Camp Summertime will not operate for Summer 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of you have also let us know how much your children have been looking forward to camp this summer.

Camp should be a safe place where campers can connect with new and old friends. A safe place where they build confidence and self-esteem under the guidance of caring staff. We know that under these circumstances we would not be able to provide so much of what makes camp so special. At Camp Summertime, camp is high fives and hugs. It’s singing songs in opening circle and swimming with friends. It’s playing sports and paddle boating. Camp is and should be, the exact opposite of social distancing.

The decision to not open camp during the current COVID-19 pandemic was carefully made after meeting with and following the opinions and guidelines of experts. For over four weeks we have been following and reviewing the guidance of the health department and the state of California, as well as having online meetings with the American Camp Association and Western Association of Independent Camps. While closing camp is difficult, our first priority is the safety of our campers, families, and staff, and we cannot simply hope that things will change enough in the coming weeks to safely or effectively operate.

This is a difficult decision for our  family-run summer camp. Nevertheless, the decision was clear when it comes to protecting your children. This has been our family business for almost 30 years. We raised our three daughters at camp and we know how valuable and important the camp experience is for children from a parent’s point of view.

As disappointed as we are to be making this announcement, we are excited to explore some online activities to keep our Camp Summertime families connected with each other and the staff that looks forward to this experience every year. We will be updating and posting more information at our website about some remote options as we decide the best way to be connected, have fun, and stay safe this summer.

In closing, please know that we will miss you all this summer at Camp Summertime. The campers and staff, the smiles, the connections, and the memories we make inspire us throughout the year. We are grateful and proud to say that we will be back in 2021, better and stronger than ever! We will be excited to see you return and continue to make memories that last a lifetime. We look forward to celebrating our 56th year of Camp Summertime and can’t wait to see you all then!

We wish you all the best,

Jennifer and Mark Greenblatt
